Amadeus Gulf has partnered with Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, to bring quality education to children and young people living in underprivileged communities in developing countries, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary. To mark this partnership, Amadeus will contribute towards the construction of a new community school in Senegal, enabling generations of children to benefit from quality education.

In addition to its financial commitment, Amadeus Gulf also facilitated additional financial contributions from 30 of its local customers to help support the initiative. Funds were raised by Amadeus team members selling raffle coupons to their friends and families. In addition, Amadeus customers purchased 30 bricks, which represent a school wall within the adopted school in Senegal.

H.E. Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Cares said: “Despite progress over the years, Senegal’s education system faces major challenges which include regional disparities in school enrolment and completion, low levels of learning outcomes, outdated curricula, poor learning conditions and linguistic barriers to name a few. Amadeus’ support of our ‘Adopt a School’ initiative will without doubt make a genuine and tangible impact on the lives of Senegalese marginalized children, their families and communities. We at Dubai Cares value Amadeus’ contribution which reflects the significant role that the corporate world plays in support of a common cause”.

Graham Nichols, Managing Director of Amadeus Gulf, said: “While our 30th anniversary is a time to reflect on our company’s past, we wanted to take this opportunity to look to the future. Partnering with Dubai Cares enables us to make a clear impact on local communities by empowering the next generation with the skills they need to thrive. We would like to thank our customers, as well as Dubai Cares, for their partnership in making this project a reality.”

Senegal has a literacy rate of just over 50[1] per cent and low enrolment rates for primary and secondary education. Approximately 66[2] per cent of people in Senegal live below the poverty line, and many children face difficulty attending school.

Dubai Cares is a UAE-based global philanthropic organization working towards providing children and young people in developing countries with access to quality education through the design and funding of programs that are integrated, impactful, sustainable and scalable.

That mission aligns closely with Amadeus Gulf’s corporate responsibility program which actively supports social development in the global markets that the company serves.
