A Philadelphia woman was charged with murder in the shooting death of her estranged husband after police found him dead outside on a tarp in Northwest Philadelphia, with a gun on his chest, police said Tuesday.

Just before 7 a.m. last Wednesday, police responded to a call of a person screaming on the 800 block of West Bells Mill Road, in the Andorra section of the city, Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore said. When officers arrived, they found Jordan Baxter, 38, lying in the driveway of a home on the block between two cars, on top of a tarp, he said.

The home, Vanore said, is that of Baxter’s estranged wife, Danielle Baxter, 39. The couple, who have three children, were separated, and Baxter was not living at the West Bells Mill Road home, he said.

He had a gunshot wound to the back of the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, Vanore said.

Since a gun was found on Baxter’s body, police initially believed he might have died by suicide, Vanore said, but his injuries were inconsistent with that.

As investigators searched the home, they determined that Baxter had been killed inside a bedroom in the house and then dragged outside to the driveway, Vanore said. A second gun, which police believe to be the murder weapon, was found in the home, he said.

Danielle Baxter was arrested Thursday and charged with murder. She was denied bail and was being held at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center.

Jordan Baxter had been a SEPTA employee for 14 years, working as a Regional Rail engineer, said Andrew Busch, a spokesperson for SEPTA.
