Firefighters were able to knock the fire down, but the home was left with extensive damage.

The fire began in a bathroom after a space heater was left unattended near a closet. The estimated cost of damage is $65,000, according to OKCFD.

OKCFD want to remind residents of space heater safety:

  • Space Heater should be turned off and unplugged when you leave the room or go to bed.
  • Choose a heater with a thermostat and overheat protection.
  • Keep the heater at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn.
