National Policy for Culture - Gozo consultation meetingA reminder that this Saturday is the first of two meetings in Gozo with the public with the aim of discussing, analysing and evaluating how they would like culture to develop in the first half of the coming decade.

These public consultation meetings in relation to the National Policy for Culture, were launched by the Culture Directorate within the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government.

In Gozo, they will take place at the Main Hall of the Ministry for Gozo, Victoria, this Saturday, the 26th of May from 9.30am – 11.30am and then on Saturday, the 16th of June from 10.00am – midday.

This Saturday’s session is on Cultural Communities – Through voluntary activity, thousands of individuals in Malta and Gozo participate and engage in traditional activities, whilst new emerging communities are contributing to increased diversification of community-led cultural participation.

It will ask – what is the role is of cultural policy in encouraging different cultural NGOs and communities to develop further their capacity as contributors in local, social and cultural wellbeing? How can traditional and new cultural communities be empowered to act as important partners in cultural development?

The following session in Gozo is on Regional Cultural Development in Malta and Gozo – From numerous yearly festivals to ongoing initiatives for communities, local government has become an important stakeholder in culture and the arts.

This session will ask how can cultural policy address strategic cultural development at both regional and local levels? What frameworks can be created through the next cultural policy that support stronger collaborations cultural planning by regions and local councils in Malta and Gozo.

This consultation process will begin the first conversation about a new cultural policy for the period 2020-2025.
