Vallnord Arcalis, Andorra (7 March 2018) – New Zealand skier Craig Murray has finished in second place at the Freeride World Tour event held in Vallnord-Arcalis, Andorra last night (NZT).

Competition took place on the "Basser Negre" venue and on a day of massive performances and big scores, Freeride World Tour rookie Murray says the result is “a dream of mine come true.”

The nineteen-year-old Wanaka local stood on the FWT podium for his first time in his career after executing a textbook run with style written all over it. Murray impressed the judges with a good mix of classic big mountain skiing and new school tricks, spinning both ways in his run and completing multiple grabs on every air while maintaining good flow between the features.

“I dropped in fifth and was really happy to put down a fun run and come in second behind Sweden’s Kristofer Turdell,” explains Murray. “I then had to wait for 20 more riders to ski very impressive lines one after another. It was amazing to watch and I couldn’t believe I was still in second at the end of the day.”

Andorra was the third stop on the five-stop tour and crucial points were on the line as competitors battled to maintain a top 13 ranking which will earn them a spot in the tour final in Verbier, Switzerland in the first week of April.

Murray currently sits in eighth place with compatriot Sam Lee (Wanaka) in ninth place. It will come down to crunch time within the next week with the fourth tour stop in Fieberbrunn, Austria scheduled to take place within a weather window 9-15 March.
