Peru went crazy after its national team defeated New Zealand on the final match to qualify for the 2018 world cup in Moscow next year. Thirty million Peruvians had been waiting thirty six years to be back in the beautiful game's world stage, and celebrate they did.

When Jefferson Farfan scored the first goal at the 27th minute of the first half, Lima's over flown National Stadium and Peru literally exploded of joy and celebration, and to such an extent that the vibrations were captured in neighboring Chile where the seismic alarm was activated.

The underground vibration was detected exactly at 02:43 Chilean local time, a sharp minute after the Farfan goal. Peru finally defeated Kiwis 2/0 and conquered the 32nd place in next year's competition. Since Spain 1982, and in spite of excellent players, Peru had never returned to a World Cup.

Peruvians took to the streets and celebrated well into the night, and the victorious team, as videos in the changing room showed, not only cheered their coach, Argentina Ricardo Gareca who turned around the spirit of a losing group into an aggressive team that was considered condemned in the tough South American qualifier, but also poked fun of the arrogant Chilean side which did not make it to Moscow.

In effect the Reds of Chile won the America's Cup in 2015 and the Centenary Cup in 2016, in both instances defeating Argentina's Lionel Messi in the final matches, but failed to qualify for Russia. The five teams from South America that qualified are Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Argentina and now Peru.
