Dimapur, Nov. 29: In a ‘significant move’ and a ‘red letter day’—in the words of The Global Open University of Nagaland (TGOUN) Chancellor TN Mannen—a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the university and the Seychelles Tourism Academy. It was signed on Wednesday Nov. 29 during the 11th annual foundation day of the former, information on Wednesday say.
The agreement was signed by Mannen and the High Commissioner of the Republic of Seychelles Ambassador to India Philippe Le Gall at the university’s campus at Sodzulhou village in Dimapur.
“It is the first MoU that Seychelles Tourism Academy is signing a MoU with a University in India and when this initiative was taken some years ago it was both a timely and most useful initiative” said the High Commissioner Le Gall. “I am sure the students’ of TGOUN will be in high demand among our five star hotels and I do hope many among you will have a chance to discover my country” he conveyed.
‘MOU is a legal framework of cooperation, it is just a first step which means-the two sides agree to cooperate in a given field. The next step will be the visit by a delegation of TGOUN to Seychelles which will be received by Seychelles Tourism Academy where they will deliberate on the technicalities’ detailed Le Gall.
Conveying his special encouragement to the hotel management and the fashion sector students’, the High Commissioner asserted tourism to be the fastest growing sector of economic sector which he said is of particular importance in Seychelles.
Giving a brief account of Seychelles, Le Gall described that Seychelles is known for being a top world tourist destination with around 300-350,000 tourists each year with focus on quality tourism and conservation and protection of the environment.
“In Seychelles we cannot build house higher than a coconut tree and we cannot cut trees in our garden, burn leaves or braches without a permit. You will never see a bird in a cage or fish in aquarium. From the early educational process it is taught that we do not own the nature but we belong to nature and this why I enjoy the fact that the state of Nagaland is a green state”, conveyed the High Commissioner Le Gall.
‘TGOUN is acting big and global and therefore I encourage the University to continue with its efforts in the right direction’ he communicated.
Mannen asserted in his message that the university will be an institution which not only caters to conventional education but that modern needs will be given due importance ‘even though the university’s infrastructure at the moment is not up to the mark with construction still taking place.’
A book was released during the event by Commissioner Le Gall. The book is “Eastern Himalayan Domestic Architecture: With special reference to the northeast India,” edited by TGOUN Vice Chancellor Dr. HN Dutta and Director-Registrar Dr. Imotemsu Ao, and published by Heritage Publication House at Dimapur.
